Jump Up Junkanoo

The Junkanoo festival starts right at the stroke of midnight when revelers take to the streets to celebrate the new year. Junkanoo has its origins in the 16th century, when enslaved workers tending to the salt ponds of Salt Bay and South Caicos were allowed one day off during the Christmas season. Like Maskanoo, the event is enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.

Junkanoo is a colorful festival of sights and sounds as groups compete against each other in wild, outlandish costumes. Enjoy traditional African music and dance until the wee hours of the morning. There are Junkanoo events happening all over Turks and Caicos.
