Our Turks & Caicos luxury resort featured in leading Aus newspaper!

sands at grace bay

The Australian, a leading newspaper in that country with several million subscribers, has more than a few nice things to say about The Sands at Grace Bay and Grace Bay Beach itself.

In its article Word’s out about the world’s best beach, the Australian newspaper explains that  Grace Bay beach has been ranked by Trip Advisor as the #1 beach destination in the world.

Award winners were determined based on the most highly rated beach destinations by travelers in TripAdvisor reviews. Unlike any other awards or rankings, TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice winners are based on millions of reviews from travelers around the world, and TripAdvisor manages a variety of websites that make up the largest travel community in the world, with, according to the company, more than 50 million unique monthly visitors, and over 60 million reviews.

The Australian article actually features an interview with staff at the Sands at Grace Bay, who notes that the Turks and Caicos are still off the radar for many people – although  the islands are slowly growing in popularity.

The article mentions snorkeling just offshore on Grace Bay beach, as well as, for the more adventurous, scuba expeditions to the “Wall” offshore, the barrier reef that protects the islands and is home to more and bigger species of marine life, including whales, dolphins and sting rays.

Sunsets seem to be a favorite of the writer who visited us here in TCI:

The sheer beauty of the place is what makes it so special, especially at sunset. Time to sit under a coconut palm and order cocktails, as a red sun sets over the water.

As Caribbean torches and kerosene lanterns are lit at restaurant tables along the beach, all you can hear is the sound of the waves.

“People often compare us to other Caribbean places, but I always say the beach here is so much better,” says an employee at the Sand at Grace Bay.

We couldn’t agree more.

The Sands at Grace Bay Remains Open

Due to the reports of gastrointestinal illness that have caused the temporary closure of two resorts in Providenciales, The Sands at Grace Bay along with many other resorts have implemented resort-wide safety procedures to ensure the continued safety and health of guests and staff. The Sands at Grace Bay is regularly sanitizing all guest rooms, public areas and the restaurant with bleach and disinfectants as a precautionary measure.

The Sands at Grace Bay Resort and Hemingway’s Beachfront Restaurant continue to remain open and safe to the public and to travelers.

We are monitoring this situation closely and will continue to implement precautionary resort-wide sanitization measures to ensure that guests and staff remain healthy. Vacationers staying at The Sands at Grace Bay are continuing to enjoy their trips in Providenciales and their time spent at the resort.

It’s official – a Turks and Caicos beach wedding is the best

Influential American weekly news magazine US News and World Report has identified the Turks and Caicos Islands – our humble corner of paradise in the Caribbean – as one of the world’s top 10 honeymoon destinations in the world. We ranked ahead of the French territory of St. Martin, but were beaten out by Martinique, another French protectorate; it pays to be French, guess.

Here are US News and World Report’s top 22 honeymoon destinations

Why does US News and World Report love TCI so much?:

Catering to an upscale clientele, Turks & Caicos are perhaps one of the least developed Caribbean destinations — and make for an intimate and somewhat secluded honeymoon experience. Besides the beaches, the main attractions in Turks & Caicos are snorkeling, scuba diving and spa treatments, all of which can be enjoyed by newly married couples. And these islands are also known for their spectacular… dining scene.

According to the magazine, one of the top attractions on the island of Providenciales is Grace Bay Beach. It’s perfect for weddings, and it’s perfect for planning a romantic honeymoon.

As we all know, the Sands at Grace Bay is located just steps from the beautiful white sand and turquoise water of this famous beach.

We love TCI because it enjoys daily flights from Miami, New York, Toronto and other major cities, which makes it easy to plan a destination wedding. As US News and World Report points out, the Turks and Caicos are a little off the beaten path, so people who do travel to Provo tend to be more interested in a refined, luxury experience.

Plus, there’s Grace Bay Beach. Have we mentioned that yet? White sand! Translucent water! Dolphins! Sunsets! Rum punch! The perfect ingredients for a perfect honeymoon.

To plan the perfect Turks and Caicos beach wedding, please contact out staff.

Turks and Caicos Events: South Caicos Regatta + TCI Flag Festival

There a couple of Turks and Caicos events coming up this month we think our guest should know about: the Caicos Regatta and the all-new Turks and Caicos international flag festival.

Caicos Regatta

Every year since 1967, TCI has hosted the South Caicos Regatta. an annual festival that features everything from parade floats and Maypole dances, to a Junkanoo music contest, dancing, model competitions and a triathalon. And of course, the event includes a regatta with participants from all over the Turks and Caicos Island chain, and even from other parts of the Caribbean and the North American mainland.

This year, the Caicos Regatta will be held from Thursday, May 24, 2012  to Sunday, May 27, on South Caicos (contact our concierge to get information about how to travel to South Caicos from Provo).

The Caicos Regatta dates back to February 1966, when Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip visited South Caicos on board the beautiful (and now sadly retired) royal yacht HMS Britannia. It was the first royal visit to TCI (still a British Overseas Territory even today), and of the people attending thought the “SAIL PAST – SALUTE” of the local sloops were the highlights of the day. Learn more about the fascinating history of the South Caicos Regatta here.

This year the theme of the Regatta is “Keeping the Vibe Alive”. It means this family-friendly event will be offer plenty of fun for everyone. It’s a great chance to learn more about

TCI Flag Festival

Following the Regatta, stay tuned for the first-ever Turks and Caicos International Flag Festival. The TCI is truly international place, with people coming from all over the world to work here, and to play here. The Turks and Caicos is home to a truly multi-cultural society, and it’s also easier to get from here to there and back again than every before (New York and Toronto, for example, are only about 3 hours away by air).

Flag Fest 2012 will include a kickoff party and a beach picnic. The grand event will be a motorcade and flag party including the Little Miss Flag Fest Pageant at the National Stadium on Venetian Road on Providenciales.

On Sunday, June 3 a Beach Party and Food Festival will be held June 4 at the Children’s Park on the Lower Bight Road.

The Sands at Grace Bay is a Turks and Caicos Resort.
